Volunteering

We love and appreciate our volunteers! Joining a committee is a great way to connect with other families, support our students, and make a difference in our school community. Explore the committees below to find one that’s right for you. If you are interested in joining, you can sign up at Help At Schools or email the Programs Committee Chair at programsfiresidepto@gmail.com.

Ambassador Program

Join our community-building efforts by welcoming new 1st–5th grade families to Fireside! As a Falcon Friend Family (FFF), you’ll be paired with an incoming family with similarly aged children. Your role is to provide a warm welcome and serve as a friendly resource — offering tips about drop-off routines, local sports leagues, community activities, or even arranging a playdate. Every existing Fireside family is welcome to participate, and we’ll provide all the key information you’ll need. This is a low-commitment opportunity that makes a big impact and helps demonstrate how welcoming and inclusive our Fireside community is.

Carnival Committee

Annual event in May

4-5 Meetings

The Carnival Committee plans and organizes one of Fireside’s most exciting annual events, our spring Carnival! We normally hire a company to provide the carnival components, and the committee helps choose the games and raffle prizes, coordinate additional vendors, and manage event logistics. This is a high-energy, fun-filled committee that brings joy to our entire community!

Fun Run Committee

Annual event in September

4-5 Meetings (2 in the Spring, 2-3 at beginning of the year)

The Fun Run is our biggest fundraiser of the year! The Fun Run Committee helps plan and organize this exciting school-wide event. The Fun Run takes place in September during school hours followed by a celebratory after-school event. This is a great way to get involved and help support our students through active fun!

Garden Stewardship Committee

The Fireside Garden to Table garden is a hands-on learning garden where all of our students participate in standards-based education aligned with BVSD curriculum.  No green thumb is needed - our partner non-profit, Garden to Table, provides weekly guidance and can answer questions as needed! This is a great opportunity to contribute to the Fireside community, spend time outdoors, and learn more about gardening.  It’s also a great activity to do with your kids!

Labor Day Parade Committee

Help lead the fun in one of Louisville’s most beloved community traditions! Parade leaders help organize families, distribute materials, hand out candy, and lead cheers along the route. This is a low commitment committee since no meetings are needed, and the logistics are taken care of by the City of Louisville.  Bring your energy, your smiles, and your Fireside pride to show off our amazing community spirit in this annual Labor Day Parade!

Multicultural Celebration Committee

Annual event in January

3-4 Meetings

Help assist the Fireside staff in organizing and planning the annual Multicultural Celebration for our school families. This is a fun (and delicious) event where we gather to enjoy foods prepared by Fireside families showcasing their cultures and celebrate the diversity of our school community! It also includes a unique musical or dance performance. This is an exciting event that the kids look forward to every year.

Staff Appreciation Committee

Members of this team organize staff appreciation events throughout the year. Events include the Staff Breakfast (August), Conference Meals (October & February), and Staff Appreciation Week (May). This committee offers a minimal time commitment with a mix of in-person and virtual tasks — perfect for parents who want to give back to our amazing teachers and staff!

STEM Fair Committee

Annual event around March/April

4-5 Meetings

Inspire young scientists and engineers by helping organize the annual STEM Fair! The committee works alongside Fireside staff to coordinate event logistics and support student participants as they showcase their projects. Additional volunteer opportunities — including day-of helpers and judges — will be available closer to the event. A great choice for anyone passionate about learning and discovery!

Yearbook Committee

Ever wondered what it’s like to help publish a book? Here’s your chance! The Yearbook Committee captures the heart of our school year by creating a treasured keepsake for students and families. Volunteers help organize photos and pages by grade, take pictures at school events when possible, collect photos from families and teachers, and assist with yearbook distribution. This committee is largely remote, so perfect if you prefer to work on your own time. This is a fun, creative project full of smiles and memories!
