Welcome and Introductions
Margretta started the introductions and welcomed all to the PTO. Margretta asked if there were any changes to the October minutes. There were none. Julann Andresen moved to approve and Dustin Sagrillo seconded. The October minutes were approved.
Principal’s Remarks – Pat Heinz-Pribyl
- The Grill n’ Bid was great! Thanks to everyone who helped.
- Open Enrollment is coming up – We have tours scheduled for December and January. A sign up sheet for parent volunteers to help with the tours was passed around.
- Book Fair Response – The toys for sale are there because they make money. Fireside made $1,600 this year from the book fair. Cutting the toys would cut quite a bit of money made.
- One new hire – We have hired Molly Kirk to work with the 4th and 5th graders in literacy. She will be working about 8 hours a week.
- Request for funds – We have started a homework club. Right now there are 22 students who meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30. This is by invite only. Fireside has been providing snacks but has requested $150 from the PTO to provide more in the future. Tam Dalle-Molle moved to approve, It was voted on and approved.
Parent Engagement Network – Lisa Hardwick
Last month’s meeting was regarding healthy lunches. A speaker came in and talked about the changes in the schools food programs. It was also noted that the more kids that take part in the school lunch program, the more affordable the program is for the schools.
Co-Chairs Remarks – Margretta Risi & Tam Dalle Molle
Guest Speakers - Deb McCormick and Ann Cooper from BVSD Food Services are going to come to our December 8th PTO meeting to discuss the School Food Project. So bring your questions and feedback next month!
Open PTO Positions –
- T-shirt/School Spirit Coordinator – Shana Sagrillo, Laurie Snyder & Julie Esterline agreed to implement this program.
- Spring Fund Raising Chair – We are looking for someone to coordinate this fundraiser, which in the past was a Math- or Read-a-thon program. The new coordinator could work with Heidi Day who has already done most of the work setting up a Read-a-thon program.
- Photography Chair – We are looking for someone to work with Cathy Healy in the Spring, so they can take over school photos in the 2010-11 school year.
- Winter Social – Lucy Floyd agreed to help Ashley Elder in coordinating this event.
PTO Funds – We are looking for ideas to use our PTO funds for school improvement. Ideas will be discussed at our December PTO meeting.
Committee Reports/Upcoming Events
Grill n’ Bid – Andy Meseck – We received positive feedback on the event. There were no major issues during the event. We made about $15,000 in profit for PTO. Total for ticket sales was $5,300 with about 850 attendees. We were heaviest in attendees in the K-5 ages. The ticket prices were believed to be well-priced at $5 & $10. We have ideas for next year already and will meet in the spring to discuss next year.
Gear Swap – Briana Greer – We sold 70 items and received 6 pure donations. Our total sales were $1,171 with the average price for an item being $16. We had a profit of $125 for PTO. The total expense of the event was $78. We had 13 volunteers. Hole in One Bagels provided bagels at ½ price and Blue Moose donated all the cream cheese.
Grocery Cards – Bridget Lemur – The program has been running well and we were able to give a check to the general PTO fund for $4,000 (for the 08/09 school year). At the Grill n’ Bid we had 19 credit card charges for a total of $1,237 (for which a check was also provided to the PTO). Since July we have incurred a $15 service fee. We also receive a $25 fee each time we change contact name on the account. Not sure of the proceeds this year but we do have 31 families signed up so far.
Green Team – Julann Andresen – The Green Team’s first meeting is next Tuesday, November 17th from 6:30-7:30 pm here at the school. They hope to apply for a grant to support the Freaker Program. This program is an incentive and rewarding program for kids who bike or walk to school. Students who walk/ride to school would receive prizes. We will also need plenty of volunteers. (Update – we have decided to look into smaller, less expensive wellness/fitness programs for this school year.)
Grocery Sacks – Tam Dalle-Molle – Still have some bags left. They are selling for $3 a bag. A flyer will be coming out soon with ideas for using the bags as gift-wrapping ideas.
Garden To Table – Lucy Floyd – Harvest at Fireside was very busy. Teachers have been interested in helping and incorporating the garden into the classroom. We are looking for more volunteers to help with classroom lessons. Their next meeting is next Tuesday, November 17th from 3-4 pm.
Giving Tree – Margretta Risi – Kim McKeen and Terri Ellerington are working on the program this year. Cathy Finleon asked if the 1st graders were going to be needed again. It was agreed that most likely they would be.
Treasurer’s Report – Ashley Elder (Margreta Risi)
Right now we have $15,341 in our checking account and $41,838 in our money market account.
School Improvement Team (SIT) Update – Pat Heinz-Pribyl
Right now SIT has been working on the paperwork for the district. They met with the district and their plan was discussed. It was passed and they were told it looked good.
District Parent Council Update – Mario Jannatpour
Teacher talks were discussed and said to be at a stalemate. Mr. King said there will most likely have a blue-flu or sick-out. Mr. King was not as enthusiastic about the teacher talks as he was two months ago. Also our school has the ability to purchase CU Basketball tickets for $1 and sell them for any price we see fit to parents/children of Fireside.
Other Business
It was noted that Maestro’s Teaching Tools in Boulder is having a going out of business sale this Friday and Saturday.
Also a big Thank you to Tatiana Duran for being the interpreter at this month’s PTO meeting.
