Welcome and Introductions
Margretta welcomed everyone to PTO and introductions followed. Tam then asked for any changes to the March minutes. There were a few grammar changes and it was noted that the Educational Funding Rally had been postponed from the 13th to the 20th. The March minutes were then approved.
Principal’s Remarks – Pat Heinz-Pribyl
Rug – Pat wanted everyone to see the new rug in the foyer, which was provided by the district.
New Logo – Pat brought in the new design for the Fireside Logo. It looks really nice but there were a few questions about printing on shirts in multiple colors.
Teacher Allocations – For the 2010-2011 school year the teacher to student ratios will be 21:1 for K-1st and 26:1 for 2nd-5th grade. We will only have to cut one teacher but because of a teacher retirement no teacher will be let go. We will have teacher shifts but not sure of which yet. We are having a teacher meeting on Thursday to discuss these changes. Decisions are to be made by end of April. We will still have P.E., Art, Library and music. We have cut $5,000 from the school allocation budget (which the PTO will cover) and we cut part of our office staff by .25 (10 hours). We are also asking PTO to pick up the grocery card distribution that the office had been doing in the past.
Co-Chairs Remarks
PTO Positions for 2010-2011 – There was a handout on all open positions for the next school year. We discussed the open positions.
Hand Sanitizer Dispenser for Cafeteria – Yunhee Jung would like to purchase a dispenser for the cafeteria. More information needs to be presented on refills and maintenance before an OK can be given.
PEN Update – Lisa Hardwick
We are having a Wellness Night on 4/27/10 from 6:30-8:00 PM here at Fireside in the amphitheatre. A flyer will go out in the Friday folders. Lisa is asking for $50 to provide snacks at the meeting. Tam moved to vote and it was approved.
Committee Reports/Upcoming Events
Grants Update – Michele Crawford – We have raised $4,596 year to date. We are still waiting to hear about the solar grant. (Note: We were a recipient of the Solar Grant!)
Fireside Festival – Cathy Hall – The festival will be on 5/14/10 from 5-8 PM. We will have 15 games and will need about 90 volunteers. We are looking for a group to sell hotdogs and/or drinks. It was suggested to just provide water. Pat said she would talk to Ms. Fitzgerald to have Student Council help.
Fireside Falcons Gear – Shana Sagrillo – We are waiting to get the logo to talk to the printer. Will need to get some ideas on items to offer for sale.
Garden to Table – Lucy Floyd – The garden is going great. For the lettuce planting we only had 2 classes that could not make it. The drip system is hooked up for watering. We will have the salad dressing making with the 3rd grade class. On 5/10/10 we will harvest the lettuce and on 5/19/10 we will have our second round of planting. On 5/27/10 at the 5th grade graduation the table decorations will be a flower/potato item where the 5th graders can plant at the end of graduation.
Turn off the TV Week – Leslie Ewing - We had 36 posters submitted with the 3 winners posted on the PTO bulletin board. We are also having Fireside night at KT’s BBQ on 4/19/10 and a potluck at the school on 4/22/10.
Science Fair – Margretta Risi – We currently have 136 students participating which equates to 106 projects (some projects have 2 students working together). We have more competitive then non-competitive for the first time. We still need one competitive judge and 2 non-competitive judges. We also need help with food and registration.
Staff & Appreciation Week – Ann Riedl – Week of May 3-7 – We will have a meeting on Friday during the Nicky Run to discuss ideas.
Expanded “Friends of Fireside” program – Heidi Day – So far we have had one person respond to the program. They have asked for different levels of incentive. A discussion followed with possibilities of having an incentive program. More news to follow.
District Parent Council Update – Mario Jannatpour – The meeting was regarding the teacher’s union. The union fielded questions from parents.
Other Business
Tam reported that she would be taking over the grocery card program next year. Going forward King Soopers will have a reusable card that you fill at the register at King Sooper’s before you checkout. Fireside will then get the full 5%, even if the purchase is made with a credit card.
Next PTO Meeting Tuesday, May 11, 6:30 pm, at Beef O’Brady’s.
