The deadline for the BVSD School Lunch Recipe Contest is fast approaching! Please be sure to email your recipes by 5:00 p.m. March 15 to Eric Ditzler at eric.ditzler (at) bvsd.org.
BVSD would like parents to be involved in the recipe development for next year's school lunch menu. Nutrition Services is holding a recipe contest just for PTAs and PTOs - the top recipe will be on the menu next year and the top three schools' PTA or PTO will be awarded $1,000, $500 and $250 respectively.
The recipe cost must not exceed $1.20 per meal as this is the actual cost allowed within Boulder Valley's school lunch program. The meal must contain at least the minimum amounts of all components of the USDA National School Lunch Guidelines:
- Meat or meat alternate: 2 oz lean meat, poultry or fish, or 2 oz cheese, or 1 large egg, or ½ cup cooked beans or peas, or 1 cup yogurt
- Bread and Grains: 1 slice of bread or equivalent of biscuit or roll (must be enriched, whole grain or contain germ or bran) or ½ cup of cooked rice, pasta or cereal grain
- Vegetable and Fruit: 2 servings totaling ¾ cup, must be two different vegetables, or two different fruits, or one of each
- Milk: 8 oz served as a beverage
They will pick the top six recipes and invite the creators in for a cook-off and judging by students and chefs. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Eric Ditzler, District Manager, at eric.ditzler (at) bvsd.org or 303-305-8035.
