  2. Change in meeting day: PTO will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm in the library. 
  3. Ice Cream Social on August 23, 2006 put on by the PTO. Sign up sheets will be out for school volunteers.
Treasurer Report:
  1. Ann Turnacliff has requested the implementation of the Peaceful Playgrounds Program. A motion was made to use the already allocated playground funds to implement the Peaceful Playgrounds Program. Motion was seconded and approved.
  2. Budget approval to be voted on September 12, 2006 meeting.
  3. Motion made to add line item for $500 for year end teacher's party to budget. Motion was seconded and approved.
  4. Michelle Crawford needs someone to create a sign for the new Richard Hire Parenting Library. 

Open Forum:

  1. Teacher gifts for the beginning of the year: caramel apples
  2. Think of PTO goals for the year
  3. PTO members, please give personal invitations to parents to help with something small for the PTO

Meeting minutes from September 12th will need to be approved at the November 14th meeting.

Principal’s Remarks: (Pat Heinz-Pribyl)

  1. Thank you for all the Fall Feast Preparations.

  2. Due to safety concerns only the main doors are to be unlocked.  Everyone is required to stop at the office, sign in and get a badge.

  3. A Lock Down Drill is scheduled for November/December.  The staff is going to make this not scary for the students.  The students will also get instructions on what to do if they are outside on recess and a Lock Down occurs.  If parents are in the building at the time of a drill or event they are to follow instructions from the staff – just like a Fire Drill.

  4. This is the off year for the CAP program.

  5. CSI is working on the goals for the school.

  6. PTO Website has last year’s dates and information on it.  Joe Newell is updating the information until he is done please verify dates and times.

  1. Should PTO considered hiring a Massage Therapist for the staff during conferences?  The teacher’s schedules are pretty tight and wont have the time to enjoy a massage.

  2. A School Spruce Up Day will be coming, exact date to be announced.

  3. Fall Feast Update.  There have bee $9000 in sales already.  Set up will begin at around 1:00pm please help if you are available.  Classroom donations for the baskets have been incredible.  Special Thank You to Maia Jourensen and Julie Meseck for all your hard work.

Parent Speaker: (David Lynd)

  1. Mr. Lynd wanted to make sure everyone is on the same page and aware of the parameters regarding religion at school.  He brought in documentation of the parameters that can be found at www.ed.gov/print/policy/gen/guid/relionandschools/letter_20030207.html and www.ed.gov/print/policy/gen/guid/religionandschools/prayer_guidance.html

Treasurer Report: (Jennifer Piper)

  1.  Jennifer presented an updated budget with two noted discrepancies:  Tara Neuman’s allocation needs to increase by $180.00 because of Preschool.  Judy Klase’s allocation needs to increase also Pat will get Jen the information.

  2. Pat Heinz-Pribyl requested $141.00 for TAG regarding someone to be trained in Junior Great Books.  PTO approved the monies.

  3. Pat Heinz-Pribyl requested up to $200.00 for a Computer Tech Support Consultant.  The consultant will help with the transition from the old system to the new system.  The original tech person is to train the new person.  PTO approved the monies.

  4. Tara Neuman and Lorraine Brooks requested $417.00 for Wilson Foundation Kits to be used for Kindergarten and First Grade.  PTO tabled this request feeling the need for more information.

  5. Tina Fontillas requested $100.00 for a case of hand sanitizer refill and 2 dispensing bottles.  The bottles are for the computer lab and the staff can use the refills to fill up their own bottles for their classrooms.  PTO approved the monies.

District Parent Council Representative: (Susan Alexenko)

  1. Dr. Garcia has announced his resignation as superintendent effective July 31, 2007.  The board is interviewing/selecting a firm to select the next superintendent.  Anticipated interviews will be Jan/Feb of 07.

  2. The district talked about Ballot issue 3A a request to fund capital improvements over the next 6 years.  Go to BVSDBond.com for more information.

  3. The district talked about Amendment 39 and Referendum J passing a resolution opposing both.

Fundraising Updates:

  1. T-shirts (Heidi Day):  Only a few of the old T-shirts left and will be placed in the auction at Fall Feast.  PTO is looking at doing a contest for the design of the new T-shirts, checking of design requirements.

  2. Box Tops (Lisa Boyle):  Flyer to go out including the new Tyson Chicken Label program.  Margretta Risi and Lisa Boyle looking into a class competition for the most label collected.

  3. Fireside Directory (Tam Dalle-Molle):  Directory to be distributed as soon as possible.

Open Forum:

  1. Fireside Chat:  There will be a place on the Conference Sheets for feedback regarding the distribution of the Chat monthly or bimonthly.

  2. Information for Friday Folders needs to be to the classrooms by Thursday.  Please specify Oldest and Only or Everyone.

  3. PTO Agenda to be emailed ahead of time.  Preferable by the Friday before the meeting.

Fall Feast final profits: The profits from the fall feast were anticipated and as such were allocated in this year’s budget that was passed at the September PTO meeting.  The funds go to such things as teachers’ classroom money, additional money for field trips, and computer software.  For more details look at ’06-’07 budget.
  2. In Jan/Feb meetings will discuss going forward with the fall feast.   
  3. Donation Network:  November Adopt a Family program is going forward.  Fireside PTO commits to sponsoring 2 families.  We plan on organizing a giving tree so that the whole school has the opportunity to get involved.

Fundraising Report:

  1. Wrapping Paper:  Finished Nov 3rd.  Committee update
  2. Grocery Certificates: Outstanding questions.
  3. Box tops and labels: update.  Set a school goal that when reached is celebrated with an ice cream party.

  3. There will be a vote next month:  5th grade is requesting $720.00 plus shipping and tax for 3 new AlphaSmart word processors.  It will be double checked if there are units available from other grades.

  1. Salad Bar Pilot for Fireside
    1. Motion made to approve half cost ($463), if half of other funds not obtained by school  - then full amount of bar for $926 would be voted on next month
  2. Thank you for the Blackout blast. 
    1. Early prediction is that it made about $1500. (Last dance made $1278)
    2. Note for next year – be sure to tell parents that there needs to be a chaperone for their children.
    3. Another consideration is to alternate the Blackout Blast with some other event, like the movie.
  3. Doris Encinias – won Walmart teacher of the year ($1000 stipend).
  4. Broomfield Event Center this Saturday

    1. – about a 1000 cartridges, can bring in a bag of 5 to OfficeMax for a $15 voucher.

    1. Motioned made to provide the edukit offerings as a service to parents; potentially a flyer- an order form to be provided with April newsletter, orders to be provided by end of May.  Has been used in other schools successfully. 
    2. PTO to consider using this system for free and reduced supplies.
  4. 240 copies of yearbook sold – hence cost is going to increase from &17 to $18. 
    1. PBH – to research cost limit (if allowed, a motion was made and approved to raise cost to $18)
  5. School Newspaper –
    1. Cathy Finleon - $108 has been spent on a  steno pads, pens and donuts for 60+ students in the newspaper (no cost to PTO – covered by district)
    2. Newspaper to be printed / distributed by next Wednesday
    3. Need a line item for next year for the cost of the newspaper
    4. Paper to be distributed to oldest and only ~ 360 students
    5. Motion made and approved up to $300 of cost for the paper
  6. Board discretionary funds
    1. Funds have been fully spent at total spent of $1152.10
    2. Approximately $200 would be needed for remaining funds
    3. Ice cream social would be about $600
    4. Motion made and approved to provide an additional $500 to the discretionary board fund.

  1. Jared Polis Teacher Recognition Award:  15 awards were given, BVSD got 8 of them, and Fireside received 2 of them!  Congratulations Maryann Schafer and Anne Turnacliff!
  2. Back to School Schedule:  All children start on 8/20/07.  Fireside will be implementing early assessments next year.   The schedule will be sent out to families soon.
  3. The salad bar is a smashing success!  The district has decided to buy the salad bar for Fireside.
  4. A Fireside Destination Imagination team is going on to Tennessee for Global Competition!  They will be working on fundraising for $6000.00 for 5 kids, 1 sponsor and a BVSD chaperone.  Congratulations!

  4. Fall grounds clean up:  Sept 8, Peaceful Playground work may need to be done as well.

  1. Heidi Day has volunteered to be our new treasurer.
  2. The district may be funding the free and reduced school supplies for next year.
  3. Working on depositing some of the grocery certificate moneys back into the general PTO account.

Fundraising Report:

  1. Spring Festival and Book Sale update:  The Book Sale is a fundraiser.  Will be held on 6/1/07.
  2. Funds still being collected for April’s Math-a-thon.  Thank you to Carrie Maag-Brown for organizing this fundraiser for all these years!  Tam Dalle-Molle is looking for a volunteer to help her with the Math-a-thon next year.
  3. Tee Shirts:  117 have been ordered, delivery in 2 weeks.   

District Parent Council Report: 

  1. There was a meeting on 4/25.  There was discussion regarding changing graduation requirements to add more math and science.
  2. Read to Achieve:  Program ending.  Possibly no grants next year.

Open Forum: 

  1. Fifth grade is requesting more funds for graduation party, $50.00 was approved.
  2. Cathy Finleon and Pat Heinz-Pribyl extended thanks for teacher appreciation; it has been very warmly received.
  3. Thank you from first grade for the extra funds.
  4. There is a catalogue available to teachers for supplies from all the collected soup labels.
  5. For Staff Appreciation week the Outback has donated appetizers to Fireside!  Thank you Outback!
  6. The Survival Guide and the Directory are being redesigned for next year.
